Philosopher George Santayana once referred to family as one of nature's masterpieces, and at Tomjachu Bush Retreat this sentiment is shared. As a result during the month of March, Tomjachu will be placing family at the head of its table.

Tomjachu Bush Retreat is an exclusive family owned private nature estate, situated only 20 minutes from Nelspruit and 45 minutes from the Kruger National Park. Built in 1988, the property was intended to be an African paradise and home to Gordon Fillery and his family. After Gordon’s passing in 1992, his son Brian Fillery found himself tasked with running the estate. Brian quickly recognised the inherent potential to share the beauty and history of the property. Over the years the establishment grew and the farm was renamed Tomjachu Bush Retreat, after Brian’s three sons, Tom, Jack & Hugo. As the family grew, so did the estate with memories and family artefacts built into the structures around the property.

The one core value that resonates in everything done at Tomjachu is that of treasuring family and constantly creating and capturing unforgettable moments with loved ones. This Easter is a call for all families to huddle up and prepare to have an epic family adventure.

Tomjachu has a variety of exciting activities designed to best suit a family of any size, such as game drives, bird watching, mountain biking trails, and fishing.

Enjoy an early morning or late afternoon game drive in a 10 seater open Safari Land Rover. A designated professional game guide will introduce you to the impeccable wonders of the Lowveld bush, awaiting for you to explore.

With over 265 different bird species, including seasonal migrants and a large variety of habitats in close proximity, Tomjachu is the perfect place for bird enthusiasts to freely roam and witness the likes of a majestic Fish Eagle plucking bass from South Dam, be enthralled by the Dabchicks skating across North Dam, and be left in complete awe by the beauty of the vast bird species.

Turn things up a notch and get your blood pumping by experiencing some thrilling mountain bike routes on the Tomjachu property, available for beginner and intermediate riders. These routes are ideal for a family challenge, taking riders through open Savannah Bushveld and riverine on a combination of 'farm' roads and marked single tracks of between 4km and 12km circuits.

For a something less competitive and more relaxed, visit South Dam with the little ones and have your and most memorable first fishing lesson. When the hours fly by, and the sun begins to set over the water, treat yourselves to a braai or enjoy a picnic at the water’s edge.

Once adventure gets the better of you and you are ready to venture off into the greater surrounding areas, begin by taking a trip to the famous Kruger National Park and meet some of South Africa’s living treasures.

After an eventful day, unwind and enjoy the comfort and luxury of award-winning accommodation.

“Having been lucky enough to grow up in this stunning place that has such a rich history and culture, I am always excited to see guests coming in to add to those memories and create some unique and exciting stories of their own”, says Jack Fillery, co-owner with brothers Tom and Hugo.
