Ryan Nicholas has made the move from Montecasino to Mossel Bay to become the Garden Route Casino’s new Director of Operations and Complex General Manager.

With his interest in the gaming world sparked while working as an articled clerk at PricewaterhouseCoopers auditing various casinos, Ryan changed direction on his career path by becoming a Compliance Manager at Montecasino.  Over the past 18 years he worked his way up through the business to become Montecasino’s Operations Manager. He shares: “I made sure to learn as much as possible from the people around me. There is no book or theory to learn about the industry. It is up to you to decide how much or how little you pick up along the way.”

His former colleagues at Montecasino have nothing but high praise for him, with Chef Ross Birkin saying: “Ryan is one of the most approachable guys you will ever meet and has always been the same, straight forward person since the first day I met him. He is very professional in what he does and is extremely calm. You can go to Ryan with anything, he is always there to listen and to guide. He will definitely improve a lot of things and it is only going to be up from there. ”

Ryan’s decision to transfer to Garden Route Casino was not only due to the career opportunity offered to manage a complex as a General Manager, but also the sheer beauty of the area and friendliness of the people. He adds: “As an avid golfer, fisherman and father of two, the lifestyle benefits offered in Mossel Bay were very attractive and appealing.”

On his aspirations for his new role, Ryan says: “My predecessor, together with his team, did a fantastic job of building and maintaining relationships with guests. I hope to maintain these relationships and build a few new ones too. I will be taking a couple of months to understand the market, its culture and the needs of the people. From there, it will be all about working with my team to fulfill these wants and needs to create an environment and an offering that is sought after by the residents of Mossel Bay and Garden Route Casino’s extended catchment area.”

Ryan is looking forward to working with his team to constantly improve the business, as well as to refining his golf game on Mossel Bay’s multitude of world class courses.
