Stay fresh in Johannesburg
The distance from the arrivals hall to the Southern Sun O.R. Tambo International Airport is just 500m, making it the ideal place to rest your head for just a few hours. And if you’re still reluctant to walk, a 24/7 shuttle operates between the hotel’s entrance and the airport terminal every 15 minutes.
The hotel has developed an excellent reputation with business travellers over the years, offering everything you’ll need for work on the move. The fully equipped International Business Centre is always available for use, and high speed Wi-Fi is offered throughout the hotel.
Also just minutes from the airport in Kempton Park is the four-star Protea Hotel OR Tambo Airport, which you can reach via a complimentary shuttle. Fittingly themed on an aircraft hanger, concrete, steel and chrome give this hotel a modern, industrial feel, and the floor-to-ceiling windows provide superb views of aircraft landing and taking off.
Chill out in Durban
Durban’s new King Shaka International Airport opened just before South Africa hosted the 2012 World Cup, and is surrounded by a picturesque sea of sugar cane. There aren’t any hotels in the immediate vicinity of the airport as such, but nearby Umhlanga – just a 10-minute drive away – is the city’s luxury hotspot and the location of most Durban-based head offices, making it the perfect base from which to do a quick bit of business or recover from jetlag.
The new Gateway Hotel – an annex of the Gateway Theatre of Shopping, the largest mall in Africa – is just off the N3 ring road, which runs straight to the airport. With its iconic leaf motif screen, the hotel is an unmistakable new destination for Durban’s business visitors.
For something a little different, the Fairmont Zimbali Resort is set between lush coastal forest and the Indian Ocean just south of popular Ballito, only a few minutes’ drive from the airport. While it has excellent conference and business facilities – perfect for the individual business traveller or groups – you’d do best to shutdown your laptop, turn off your phone and slip in some R&R at this gorgeous hotel.
Catch a glimpse of Cape Town
Not so long ago voted the most beautiful city in the world, Cape Town is prized as a honeymoon destination and jam-packed with things to do. There aren’t many other places in the world where a business trip will go down quite as well. It’s kind of a shame to think about being in Cape Town not long enough to do the sights some justice, but at least you can sneak in a great view or two: the famed Table Mountain is visible from just about everywhere, with an especially stunning look from the three-star Protea Hotel Tyger Valley, which is just 15 minutes from the airport.
Ideal for the business traveller, the hotel marries convenience and comfort with value for money. Wi-Fi throughout, a neat business centre and secure parking bays outside each room make it a practical base for a zippy business trip. There are 100 spacious rooms with all the usual bits and bobs, and the on-site Point of View a la carte restaurant serves up great food with a stunning view of Table Mountain.
Just 12km from the airport, African Pride Crystal Towers Hotel & Spa is set in the Century City urban hub and boasts the second largest conference and convention venue in Cape Town. Modern, sophisticated and luxurious, the hotel is the perfect base from which to conduct a bit of business with its complimentary Wi-Fi, full secretarial and business services, boardrooms and conference venues.
