Spine of the Dragon - Blog Entry 15
October 4th, 2012
There’s lots of time to tell you about the Karoo, it’s landscape, people and changing dynamic as we have many days of riding here ahead.
So it’s more important to highlight something very close to our hearts – Today is World Rhino Day. As a number of you know, we see the wanton destruction of these magnificent beasts as a representation of man’s disregard for our fragile planet and that we are riding to raise awareness of their plight and of other environmental issues (such as fracking the Karoo). We are also raising funds for the Rhino anti-poaching wing of Ian Players trust, the Magqubu Ntombela Foundation.
We would like to thank all those people who have made generous donations and pledged sponsorship for each kilometer we ride. All assistance received will be put to good use by the brave men who are trying to protect these magnificent beasts while the conservation world grapples with longer term solutions to the problem.
If you haven’t made a contribution, but wish to do so, there are a number of ways you can. They are all listed on the Detour Trails website, just log onto www.detourtrails.co.za, click on the Detour on the Dragon tab and then the donate tab. If this doesn’t work, you can contact us on email@example.com and we will respond when we have signal.
