Adventure climbing through Lesotho
Most mountain bikers contemplating a 2km ride wonder what they will be doing after breakfast. However we were about to embark on no ordinary mountain bike trail. It ended up taking around seven hours to complete this short distance!
 
We had the daunting task of having to climb over the mountain to get into the middle of Lesotho and avoid a ride around of a few days. Having done this before, I introduced the guys to ‘pony biking’, which is when you hire a local Basotho pony to carry your bike while you walk, or ride the pony while the horseman carries your bike.
 
This plan worked splendidly and after about three hours we crested the ridge, bid our horsemen farewell and made our way down the other side. The trail eventually appeared and we were able to negotiate some of the way on our bikes eventually!
