Riding the Spine of the Dragon - Blog Entry 6
Day 23
Start: Ha Lejone
Finish: Katse Dam
Distance: 47 km
Climb: 1002m

After the demanding few days before, we decided to take an easy ride to the Katse Dam wall and village to give us more time to recover.

Ha Lejone is at the headwaters of the Katse Dam and immediately leaving the village we started our ride along the dam for some 40km, which would be our constant companion for the entire day. We took the road up and down along the dam and didn’t even notice the steep climbs and hectic descents so characteristic of Lesotho.

A highlight was being allowed to cycle over the dam wall and get a close view of the engineering that supports this amazing feature.
As far as Lesotho goes this ride was a doddle, despite the 1000m climb.

We had the afternoon to do some much needed washing and generally relax, which has been quite a rarity. I even had time to start exploring a route through the mountains to Mansonyane by finding some locals who ride horses on the trail. According to the locals, it seems to be possible but not advisable and takes around 8 hours by horse and bicycles go by road! Exploring this trail will have to wait as we need to get to the Cape at some point!
