Day 29
Start: Reedsdell
Finish: Dordrecht
Distance: 142km
Climb: 255m

Weather has had a big influence on our progress, so we left Reedsdell in good weather planning for another big ride to Dordrecht in order to take advantage of the good conditions (The "Dragon Master" aka David Bristow would have said we were mad).

Although Reedsdell is over Lundean’s and we are moving away from Lesotho, it’s nowhere near flat! The run into Barkley East through what looks like idyllic farmland is up and down, but the scenery does well to distract you from the constant climbing over every saddle or neck between the endless string of sandstone koppies.

This is sheep country and lambing season, so the fields are littered with newborns.

After Barkley East there are some subtle changes in the landscape, but still many koppies and millions of sheep. So the riding continues to be up and down.

Roughly halfway into the ride the Mother Ship cruised up behind us and we stopped for a welcome break. Sarah produced the biggest vetkoek we have ever seen, filled with mince, chips, etc. Washing this down with coke was quite a treat, even beating our previous best lunch of steak Pies on Kasper’s Nek.

As the day wore on, we began to feel the strain of taking on another big ride, but the mind is a powerful thing and kept us going (not forgetting the regular support from the Mother Ship and Sarah with cokes and other treats). Just before sunset we powered our way into Dordrecht.

Did you know that in the last four riding days we’ve climbed more than the height of Everest above sea level, i.e. 8848m!? Well, our legs certainly know all about it!
