SHIMMY BEACH CLUB

Doing the Shimmy

Shimmy Beach Club, Cape Town’s premier venue and restaurant, reopened recently after a brief winter hibernation for operational upgrades– and now it’s preparing for the release of an action-packed summer campaign a bit later this year.

Shimmy was closed to the public during July 2015, but was available exclusively for corporate groups and events.

“It’s an exciting time for us to regroup after a busy and successful year,” said Malcolm Moodie, Shimmy General Manager. “There is so much to look forward to. We’ve got some interesting plans up our sleeve for summer 2015/16”

Cape Town’s hottest venue, Shimmy has earned a reputation as the place to be seen, recognized and, perhaps, rub shoulders with a few rich and famous celebs.

Before its brief closure, South Africa's premier beach club and restaurant unveiled a mouthwatering winter menu, packed with comfort food with a strong Mediterranean influence, which had customers coming back for more.

It has to be among the most memorable oceanfront dining experiences available, spectacularly located on the harbour, with a breathtaking backdrop of iconic Table Mountain. Here, opportunities for luxury and sheer indulgence abound.

But back to food, glorious food… Here the tables groan under the weight of good things to eat.

The winter menu boasted utterly delectable biltong encrusted Venison Carpaccio, with caper berry popcorn, parmesan, crisp baby leaves and creamed wasabi mayo, to grilled Tiger Prawns with Thai flash fried egg noodles & lime to grilled Artichoke, Asparagus & Lemon Risotto, with chive-scented mascarpone, Shimmy has it all. And that’s just for starters…

The mains included Duck Confit Leg & Wood Roasted Breast, fondant potato & julienne vegetables with orange jus, slow braised Oxtail Tortellini, with pumpkin puree and sage beurre noisette, Lamb Shank pot pie with candied butternut and balsamic and rosemary marinated Rib Eye Steak, with celeriac puree, salsa verde and spicy potato wedges. Comfort? You bet.

But why stop there? Ain’t no way you can leave before pudding. For instance, 70% Dark Chocolate Fondant, with naartjie ice cream, cointreau short bread and hazelnut praline crumble, Ginger and Orange Steamed Pudding, with orange and Candied Fruit and Mascarpone Cannoli with a rich white chocolate sauce. Gosh, whatever will they think of next?

But despite its manifold winter comforts, Shimmy remains essentially a summer venue, perfect for a hot oceanfront outing. Shimmy was recently voted by Zomato users as Cape Town’s best club, for its unique design and location. It boasts a fine dining restaurant, whisky and vodka tasting rooms, two bars, an outside hydraulic stage and a sprawling deck leading down to an infinity pool and private beach.

Shimmy Beach Club is known for hosting Cape Town’s biggest parties, especially during summer. However, the multi-purpose venue is also ideal for corporate use for day conferences, business meetings, glitzy launch parties or client dinners due to its clever layout and versatile breakaway rooms.

Centrally located in the V&A Waterfront harbour, near the CTICC, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, it can host anything from 20  to 1600 people. Shimmy also caters for families and kiddies parties and has become a hit with parents seeking a venue that can accommodate the tastes of both adults and children alike.

So, grab a seat inside the glamorous ocean-front restaurant or go alfresco on the expansive deck with the sea at your feet and sun on your cheeks. Summer beckons, and Shimmy is ready for it …
