So many special ways to sightsee in Cape Town this summer

City Sightseeing Cape Town, the first carbon neutral bus company in South Africa, offers sightseers looking for a memorable experience several options that showcase the Peninsula and the Mother City in all its glory.

In addition to the well-known Red City and Blue Mini Peninsula Tours that City Sightseeing offer on board the iconic red double-decker open top buses, City Sightseeing also offer a unique Night Tour, which runs through the Summer months, and the company recently launched its latest offering – that of the Cape Point Sidecar Tour.

The City Sightseeing Night Tour – the only one of its kind in South Africa and an experience not to be missed – runs from September till May next year and starts at the V&A Waterfront (Stop 1), with the bus departing at 18h00 till 14 March, when it will then begin departing a bit earlier at 17h30 (till 6 May).  

Taking you past all the best night attractions, the bus stops at Signal Hill to watch the sun set over the Atlantic Ocean – so remember to bring along a picnic basket with snacks and sundowners.

Details of the Night Tour at a glance:

From 20 September till 14 March the bus departs from the Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront at 18h00.

From 15 March till 6 May the bus departs from the Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront at 17h30.

Total length of time of the entire tour is three hours.

It is not a hop-on, hop-off tour.

Tour ends back at our Tour Office, outside the Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront.

Bring warm clothes just in case.

The Cape Point Sidecar tour is City Sightseeing’s latest sightseeing offering and it is definitely something to put on your bucket list!

The Sidecar Adventure Tours are an exciting new way to discover Cape Point.  

View more than 2 200 fynbos species and explore the Cape Point nature reserve – home to buck, baboons and Cape Mountain Zebra – whilst cruising alongside in a vintage World War II sidecar.

The classic sidecar motorcycle is driven by an experienced and knowledgeable chauffeur and it takes two passengers.  

The tour departs from the City Sightseeing ticket office at the Two Oceans Aquarium and makes its way through Newlands, Constantia and Bishopscourt before heading up Ou Kaapse Weg and through Silvermine Nature Reserve.

You then travel through the Noordhoek Valley, over Blackhill and down the Glencairn Expressway to Simonstown and from there to Boulders beach where you can hop off the bike and visit the famous Jackass penguin colony.

From there you go to Cape Point and then through Scarborough and Misty Cliffs, over Chapman’s Peak Drive, through the bustling village of Hout Bay, past Llandudno, Oudekraal and Bakoven and Camp’s Bay before heading back to the Waterfront through Sea Point and Three Anchor Bay. I

n total the Cape Point Sidecar Tour takes approximately five hours and covers a distance of 150km’s.  

Tours require pre-booking from the City Sightseeing ticket office outside the Two Oceans Aquarium or book online.  

The Cape Point Sidecar Tour costs R1 900/sidecar (R950/person – min of 2 people per booking) if you book at the office, or book and buy online and pay R1 700/sidecar (R850/person).  

This price includes the Chapman’s Peak toll, Cape Point Reserve entrance fee and the use of the proper bike gear.

Other City Sightseeing offerings include the one day Red City Tour and the one day Blue Mini Peninsula Tour, which features a free Wine Tour of Constantia Valley, as well as the Canal Cruise which offers the chance to experience the V&A Waterfront from a completely different angle.  

Anyone who buys a 2-Day ticket, combining the Red and Blue Tours will also receive a free ticket for the Night Tour as well as the Canal Cruise.

Buses operate daily from 09h00 with commentary available in 16 different languages, and includes a fun Kids Channel.

Ticket options for the Red City Tour and Blue Mini Peninsula Tours include a 2-Day valid ticket for R220 (if purchased online, otherwise R250 from the Tour Office) or the 1-Day valid ticket for R120 (if purchased online, otherwise R150 from the Tour Office).  

Tickets for the Night Tour cost R100 (or purchase online for R90 and save R10) or it is free with a 2-Day ticket.
