The South African Rugby Union (Saru) has unveiled plans to open a new rugby museum, The Springbok Experience, at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town on September 24.
It will feature a modern, interactive rugby museum, Springbok shop and ‘Springbok Trials’ rugby skills zone.
It replaces Saru’s former museum in Boundary Road, Newlands, and is set to provide an eye-opening contrast to traditional museums.
Jurie Roux, CEO of Saru, says that the Springbok Experience will be interactive, digital and immersive, displaying some incredible artefacts which tell the South African rugby story.
Roux said Saru had deliberately selected a venue that was heavily 'foot-trafficked' as he wanted to make it as accessible as possible to the public – making the V&A Waterfront with its 23 million visitors a year the ideal location for the museum.
