Two high-end hotels are in the pipeline for construction in the Kruger National Park, one by international hotel group, Rezidor – Radisson Blu Safari Resort – and another by SANParks called Skukuza Conference Lodge. These developments were proposed in a bid to diversify the park's product offering and cater to the MICE market which has been identified as a useful inroad to attract more visitors to the park.
The two new developments would both target businesspeople and tourists who preferred a full-service offering instead of self-catering facilities, such as families with children who enjoyed the perks of modern conveniences.
Skukuza Conference Lodge
The 120-room conference lodge will be located in the existing Skukuza Rest Camp next to the conference centre which already exists, and will cater to the three-to-four star market. The conferencing facility at the lodge will accommodate 500 delegates in the main conference hall, plus 128 in two breakaway rooms.
Radisson Blu Safari Resort
Situated along the Crocodile River on the southern border of the park, this resort will be around 10km from Malelane Gate. The hotel is the first internationally branded hotel in the park and its positioning in terms of market would be between the private game lodges and the SANParks accommodation. The Radisson Blu will comprise of 120 rooms, an all-day restaurant, boma area, spa, gym, two swimming pools and terrace. There will also be five conference rooms, game-viewing decks, a kids club and an environmental awareness centre. Safaris will depart daily from the hotel to the main game-viewing areas of the park.
